STC, Mobily, Zain Win 5th Spectrum Auction for Mobile Telecommunication Networks
The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has unveiled the winners of the 5th Spectrum Auction for Mobile Telecommunication Networks.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the auction focused on the frequency bands 600, 700, and 3800 MHz.
The auction boasted three qualified applicants in the auction, Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily), and Zain KSA.
The Results
STC won a total of 40 MHz in the frequency band 600 MHz and a total of 100 MHz in the frequency band 3,800 MHz.
Mobily secured a total of 20 MHz in the frequency band 700 MHz and a total of 100 MHz in the frequency band 3,800 MHz.
Zain won a total of 30 MHz in the frequency band 600 MHz.
Significant Impacts
Crucially, the auction will contribute over 25 billion SAR to gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030.
Therefore, it will foster the digital infrastructure and boost investment and competitiveness of the Kingdom’s mobile telecommunications networks.
In addition, the auction will further accelerate the deployment of innovative telecom services and increase the licensed frequencies for mobile telecommunication networks from 1,110 MHz to 1,400 MHz, a 27% increase.
