The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in biodiversity sustainability and marine environmental protection along the Red Sea coast. This strategic partnership aims to mitigate the impact of coastal tourism activities and align with Saudi Vision 2030.
Key Areas of Collaboration
The MoU focuses on several critical areas, including the preservation of existing biodiversity along the Red Sea coast, the exchange of information and expertise, and the provision of studies, reports, and consultations. Both institutions will collaborate on assessing the environmental impact of tourism and updating standards and regulations to ensure sustainable development.
SRSA’s CEO, Mohammed Al-Nasser, and Dr. Tony Chan, President of KAUST, formalized the agreement. Their shared goal is to coordinate efforts to support coastal tourism while protecting the marine environment.
Supporting Marine Protection and Human Capital
The partnership also emphasizes the development of human capital within the coastal tourism sector. This will be achieved through specialized training programs designed to enhance the skills of national talent. Additionally, the MoU outlines plans to host joint events and explore ways to strengthen marine environmental protections amidst growing industrial activities.
Advancing Saudi Vision 2030
This collaboration is part of SRSA’s broader strategy to expand its network of strategic partnerships, share expertise, and adopt best practices. By enhancing coastal tourism and ensuring environmental sustainability, the partnership contributes to the long-term goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The new MoU emphasizes economic development and environmental protection for a thriving Red Sea.
