Prince Saud bin Nayef Al Saud, the Emir of the Eastern Province, inaugurated the second Islamic Art Conference at Ithra, focusing on traditional Islamic craftsmanship.
The conference, hosted by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra), runs from November 24 to 26, 2024. Organized with the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture, it explores the theme “In Praise of the Artisan.” This event features officials, researchers, and cultural figures, including Prince Sultan bin Salman.
The opening ceremony included a welcoming program and exhibitions celebrating artisans preserving Islamic craftsmanship traditions. Exhibits highlight the creative legacy of artisans whose work reflects Islamic culture.
Honoring the “Silent Poet”
Ithra’s Director, Abdullah Al-Rashed, stressed the importance of honoring artisans often overshadowed in traditional Islamic art. He said, “The artisan is a silent poet, and this conference honors their invaluable contributions.”
The event offers research papers, discussions, and global exhibitions showcasing Islamic art and culture. Al-Rashed also launched exhibitions on artifacts, Islamic arts, and clothing, aligned with the 2025 “Year of Handicrafts.” Ithra plans programs, workshops, and exhibitions welcoming thousands of visitors.
