SGS Unveils Geological Survey Findings at Mining Conference

Outcomes of International Mining Conference

The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) released the results of geological survey projects during the 3rd International Mining Conference, according to Saudi Press Agency.

Outcomes of International Mining Conference

Eng. Abdullah Al-Shamrani, CEO of the Saudi Geological Survey, confirmed the agency’s findings presentation at the International Mining Conference. This involved revealing data packages for airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys across 73 grid squares in the central and southern parts of the Arabian Shield region at a 100,000:1 scale.

Notably, these surveys cover almost 180,000 square kilometers, representing 30% of the entire Arabian Shield area.

Geochemical Surveys

Al-Shamrani explained that data packages for geochemical surveys, representing 40% of the total area of the Arabian Shield, were also revealed by the Saudi Geological Survey. These surveys covered approximately 218,000 square kilometers and included 35,575 surface sediment samples.

Over 3.7 million digital entries were provided for describing surface samples and analyzing their chemical composition for 76 elements.

Role of NGD Projects in Mining Sector Advancement

Eng. Abdullah Al-Shamrani emphasized the vital role of the National Geological Database (NGD) projects. Simultaneously, these initiatives aim to maximize value for the mining sector by strategically increasing reliable geological survey data. Furthermore, the objectives include supporting mineral exploration, attracting both local and foreign investments in the Arabian Shield mining sector, and stimulating the economy. Ultimately, the goal is to obtain diverse, high-quality geological data for long-term use.
