SFDA,  SDAIA Sign MoU to Boost Data, AI Collaboration

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in leveraging data and artificial intelligence technologies.

The agreement followed a visit by SDAIA President Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi to the SFDA headquarters, where he was received by SFDA CEO Dr. Hisham Aljadhey. The two leaders discussed opportunities to integrate their respective areas of expertise through the strategic use of data and AI.

During the visit, Dr. Alghamdi was introduced to the SFDA’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL), a dedicated platform focused on developing and implementing AI-driven solutions. He also toured the Interactive Center, where he reviewed services aligned with the SFDA’s fourth strategic plan, which prioritizes regulatory enhancement, research and innovation support, and strengthening the authority’s leadership both regionally and globally.

The signed MoU outlines collaborative efforts to support national initiatives aimed at maximizing the impact of data and AI. These efforts include launching innovation-focused programs, developing AI applications, increasing local technological content, and setting standards for logistics data and AI competencies. Additionally, the two authorities will work together to nurture national talent and exchange expertise in AI governance specific to the food and drug sectors.

Finally, this partnership marks a significant step toward reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in data and AI innovation.
