The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today in Berlin, establishing a broad framework for collaboration in food safety and risk assessment. The ceremony took place during the official visit of Minister of Health and Chairman of the SFDA Board of Directors, Fahad AlJalajel, to Germany.
The SFDA delegation was led by the Minister of Health. The MoU signed on behalf of the authority by Dr. Mohammed Al-Nasser, SFDA Vice President for the Food Sector. Representing the BfR, its President, Professor Dr. Andreas Hensel, also signed the agreement.
The MoU creates a dedicated network of food safety risk assessors from both organizations, with a special focus on the safety of food contact materials and packaging and their impact on public health. It also enhances global food safety efforts by promoting the exchange of information and best practices related to the use of artificial intelligence in risk assessment, as well as the evaluation of innovative products developed through biotechnology and AI. This includes the mutual sharing of product safety data, efficacy findings, and assessment methodologies.
Collaboration will be further strengthened through reciprocal visits, joint workshops, and coordinated training programs.
This strategic partnership reflects the shared commitment of both the SFDA and BfR to advancing a modern, data-driven, and forward-looking food regulatory system that supports public health at national and international levels.
