Saudi – Turkey Relations
Recently, in 2024, both countries mended ties. The global and regional changes have encouraged this rapprochement.
As a result of economic needs, geopolitical shifts, both countries had no choice except figuring out means to empower cooperation.
This change is reflective of the dynamic nature of international relations, where economic and strategic interests often pave the way for new alliances and partnerships.
Economic and Geopolitical Incentives
Both nations have strong incentives for normalizing relations. Turkey has mended ties with Saudi Arabia as a way to alleviate its deep economic troubles, including soaring inflation and a slumping lira.
The recent developments suggest a new chapter in Saudi-Turkey relations, marked by increased trade, defense cooperation, and potentially significant Saudi investments in various Turkish sectors. This normalization is expected to have broader implications for the region, affecting the balance of power and influencing other ongoing normalization processes.
Furthermore, the cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Turkey has been praised in the energy sector, with both countries being significant players in the region. They have also collaborated on issues such as counterterrorism and regional stability.
