Saudi Team Secures 3 Medals in International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics
Saudi Arabia’s team has achieved remarkable success in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Saudi students successfully secured three medals in the first Saudi participation in the history of IOAA, with nearly 250 students from 50 countries.
The Kingdom’s participation represented a collaborative effort of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, and the Ministry of Education.

The following brilliant Saudi students won 3 medals:

| Hussein Hassan bin Mohammed Al Mubarak | Eastern Education Department | Bronze medal |
| Fajr Hassan bin Ali Al-Ubaidan | Al-Ahsa Education Department | Bronze medal |

During the Olympiad, the participants took two tests:
- Theoretical test to measure their knowledge and understanding of astronomy and astrophysics
- Practical test to observe astronomical objects and analyze data
The Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad is an annual international competition for high school students. Last year, the Kingdom participated with an observer team to prepare for this year’s competitions.
