Recipe of Tamriah

  • Ingredients:

– 1 cup of nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pistachios are commonly used, you can choose according to your                     preference)
– 20-25 Medjool dates, pitted
– 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter (optional, for frying)

– 1 teaspoon of ground cardamom (optional, for flavor)
– 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional, for flavor)
– 1/2 cup of powdered sugar or fine sugar (for coating)
– 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds (optional, for garnishing)

  • Instructions:

1. Prepare the Nuts:
– If using almonds or pistachios, blanch them first by boiling them in water for 1-2 minutes, then immediately          transferring them to cold water. Peel off the skins.
– Roughly chop the nuts or pulse them in a food processor until coarsely ground. If you’re adding cardamom or cinnamon for extra flavor, mix it with the ground nuts.

2. Stuff the Dates:
– After that, gently open each pitted date with your fingers. Be careful not to split them completely.
– Stuff each date with about a teaspoon (or as much as can fit) of the ground nut mixture. Following this, press the dates closed.

3. (Optional) Fry the Dates:
– In a skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
– Then, fry the stuffed dates for 1-2 minutes, turning them so they get evenly coated and slightly crispy. This step is optional but adds a nice texture.

4. Coat the Dates:
– Roll the warm dates in powdered sugar or fine sugar until they are fully coated. This will give them a sweet crust.

5. Garnish and Serve:
– Sprinkle sesame seeds over the dates for an added touch of flavor and presentation.
– Serve the Tamriah at room temperature as a delicious treat or dessert.

 Tips:

– You can customize the filling by adding orange zest, coconut flakes, or even a mix of different nuts to suit your taste.
– These nut-filled dates can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week, making them a perfect make- ahead dessert for special occasions.
