The Rhodes Trust has confirmed that three Saudi students have been chosen to receive its prestigious scholarships for the year 2024. They are set to join an elite group of over 100 scholars at the University of Oxford.
The recipients are Haifa Al-Arafa, a clinical psychologist; Mohammed Al-Waleai, a biomedical engineer focusing on nanotechnology; and Yusuf Bukhari, who excelled in social sciences.
This scholarship offers graduate students a chance to pursue their studies at the University of Oxford for a period that can extend to three years, tailored to their specific academic disciplines.
The Saudi scholarship initiative, endorsed by the Ministry of Education, was inaugurated in 2018 with funding from prominent Saudi philanthropists. The Rhodes Scholarship itself dates back to 1903 and is renowned for fostering academic excellence at the postgraduate level.
This commitment was prominently highlighted at a conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a gathering that not only served to honor the accomplishments of Muslim women but also to affirm their rights within Islamic societies.
The OIC’s steadfastness in advocating for Muslim women’s rights is not a recent development. The organization has, from its inception, been active in promoting these rights and striving for the empowerment of women in Muslim communities.
