The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture will host the inaugural Saudi Reef Forum in Al-Ahsa from December 16-18. The forum aims to empower rural communities and enhance their contributions to sustainable development and economic growth.
Fostering Rural Sustainability
Maha Aldhahi, head of the forum’s executive committee, emphasized its alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and UN Sustainable Development Goals. She stated that the event will strengthen rural areas while fostering global research and sustainable agricultural practices.
The forum will bring together regional and international experts to tackle rural-to-urban migration, offering practical solutions to ensure rural vitality. Discussions will focus on creating economically viable rural areas, addressing key challenges, and exploring innovative strategies for sustainability.
Fostering Innovation for Economic Growth
The event will highlight advancements in agriculture and rural development, boosting social cohesion through job creation and investments. Aldhahi noted that the forum builds on the Saudi Reef Program, recognized globally as a leading initiative in rural development.
The Saudi Reef Program has supported over 77,000 agricultural projects, achieving a self-sufficiency rate above 65 percent in critical sectors. It has also enhanced rural communities’ skills, provided career opportunities, and preserved traditional practices.
Forging Global Partnerships
Ghassan Bakri, secretary-general of the Saudi Reef Program, described the program as a model for sustainable growth addressing food security and job creation. He stated that the forum seeks to attract global partnerships and exchange innovative solutions for rural empowerment.
The event will include dynamic discussions on sustainable agriculture, rural entrepreneurship, and the integration of modern technology into traditional farming.
Showcasing Rural Innovation
A dedicated exhibition will feature unique rural practices, handicrafts, and products from local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs. It will highlight the fusion of traditional techniques with modern innovations to create sustainable livelihoods.
By hosting the Saudi Reef Forum, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its commitment to rural sustainability and global leadership in agricultural innovation.
