Saudi LPTC organizes “Translation Hackathon” in Riyadh

The Saudi Literature, Publishing & Translation Commission (LPTC) is preparing to organize a “Translation Hackathon” in Riyadh from 8 to 11 October 2022, under the title “Translating Culture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, challenges, and solutions”.

 

 Through this step, the authority aims to shed light on technical solutions to the challenges facing the dissemination and translation of cultural content within the Kingdom, and it also sets its sights on facilitating the process of transmitting Arabic content to non-native speakers.

 

 

Objectives of launching the translation hackathon

 

As stated in SPA, the hackathon is scheduled to gather 40 teams with a total of 120 contestants. Each team comprises 3 individuals specialized in languages ​​and translation, programming and information technology, and design.

 

 The competition among them includes winning prizes of up to 200,000 riyals. The Authority aims to launch the “Translation Hackathon” to achieve the following:

 

Allowing creators and investing in the capabilities of novice programmers.

 

Highlighting challenges and discovering ways to deal with them, especially for those working in the translation sector.

 

– Enhancing technology that achieves the objectives of the translation and publishing sector.

 

Criteria and controls for participating in the translation hackathon

 

The Literature, Publishing, and Translation Authority is scheduled to celebrate the winners of the competition on 4 November, provided that they meet the following criteria:

 

Fitting, programming, and design.

 

Creativity and originality of the idea.

 

Impact and sustainability.

 

Commercial execution.

 

– Presentation.

 

Literary Agent Initiative

 

The Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority is organizing the current session of the Riyadh International Book Fair, to support the leadership of cultural content within the Kingdom, and in turn launched several initiatives, including the Literary Agent’s initiative,

 

 Through this initiative, the Commission seeks to regulate the relationship between the writer and the relevant authorities and to address challenges in the publishing sector in the Kingdom.

 

The initiative aims to raise the quality and diversity of literary works and stimulate competition in the fields of writing and publishing.

 

Author’s Literary Agent Initiative Services

 

– Follow up on sales, distribution, and marketing reports.

 

Representing the author locally and internationally and presenting the author’s product to publishing houses.

 

Marketing the author’s product to publish audio and digital books.

 

Supporting and providing consultations in developing the book’s content.
