Saudi Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission to translate international academic periodicals

The Saudi Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission announced the launch of Tarjim, a project to translate academic periodicals. The authority intends to enrich the content available in Arabic by translating academic journals in cultural, social and humanitarian fields and publishing them online.

The project is divided into three sections. The first step is to choose academic publications of high scientific and cultural worth; the second is to translate them into Arabic; the third focuses on releasing texts on the Tarjim platform, so Arab researchers worldwide can have access.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the initiative intends to overcome the research gap between the Arab region and the rest of the world. By translating top international academic publications into Arabic, the most recent scientific research discoveries in the human, social, and cultural sectors will be available to Arabic readers.

The authority launched the Tarjim program on 30 September 2020, coinciding with the International Day of Translation.
