Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held discussions on Sunday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan concerning the recent military escalation in the region between the US, Israel and Iran, according to Arab News.
The two leaders also explored, via a phone call, the broader implications of the current situation for regional and international security.
Erdogan “shared his concern that the conflicts will have severe repercussions in terms of regional and global security unless necessary intervention is made,” the Turkish Communications Directorate said in a statement.
During the call, Erdoğan declared Turkey’s condemnation of Iranian aggression against Saudi Arabia and expressed his country’s rejection of any actions that undermine Saudi sovereignty and stability.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
In response, Iran also launched a counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
Saudi Arabia confirmed on Saturday that Iran launched strikes against Riyadh and its Eastern Province.
As a result, the Kingdom warned it reserves the right to defend itself, including by retaliating, while describing the attack as “blatant and unjustified aggression.”
In this context, the Turkish President expressed full support for all measures undertaken by the Kingdom to protect its security and citizens.
