Saudi Artiste Crafts AlUla Heritage on Key Medallions, Stylish Clothes
A brilliant Saudi Artiste uses palm dates and archeological wonders to create stylish key medallions and embroidered clothes reflecting AlUla’s exceptional heritage.
Wijdan Al Faqiri has early noticed her passion for collecting fallen dates on her father’s farm. Then, she decided to turn these dates, that are usually neglected, into impressive pieces of art.
As one of the natives of the ancient oasis AlUla governorate, Al Faqiri was fully aware of the significance of dates and its unparalleled status in the hearts of Saudis.
The artiste intended to preserve the dates away from any smelling musty in order to keep them clean and stylish.
Consequently, she followed a certain process resembles mummification in which she uses various special materials.
In addition to this, Al Faqiri produces embroidered winter clothes inspired by AlUla heritage.
Through exquisite details, the clothes reflect how the past and present can combine together portraying an amazing look.
Al Faqiri has named her project after an ancient queen, “Shaqila”.
“It started as a hobby, but with time, I realized that I could turn my passion into a profession throbbing with authenticity. I wanted each piece to carry something from our heritage, and to be a link between the past and the present,” Wijdan told the Saudi news portal Sabq.
Furthermore, the annual dates festivals in AlUla became a haven for the artiste’s products and art pieces.
