The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and the President of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al al-Sheikh, has passed away, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the Royal Court announced that Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti passed away. The funeral prayer will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer.
Moreover, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has directed that funeral prayers in absentia (Salat al-Gha’ib) be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom after Asr prayers.
The late Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al al-Sheikh also assumed the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, and the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League.
The Royal Court stated that, with the passing of the Grand Mufti, Saudi Arabia and the entire Muslim world have lost a distinguished scholar who contributed immensely to the service of knowledge, Islam, and Muslims.
On this occasion, King Salman and the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, have extended their deep condolences to the late Grand Mufti’s family, the Saudi people, and the Islamic world, the Royal Court said.
