Saudi Arabia wins 1st place in the World Robot Olympiad

The Kingdom won first place in the 2022 WRO World Robot Olympiad Championship, which will be held in Dortmund, Germany, from November 17 to 19.

The competition shows the creativity of young people between the ages of 8 and 19. This relates to robotics, artificial intelligence, and STEM programming.

The Kingdom’s team was sponsored by the Saudi Federation for Wireless Sports and Robotics. This was in partnership with the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones, the Ministry of Education, and KACST.

Prince Sattam University, King Salman Oasis, and Thakaa Company also sponsored the team as well as SABICIC Liquidation, sponsored by Saudi Telecom Solutions Company. The teams from this kingdom will be in the finals.

The Kingdom participated in the World Rugby Organization (WRO) with eight teams – which is the largest participation in the history of the Kingdom’s participation in the Olympic finals.

At the competition, which had 365 teams from 73 nations, the Kingdom won first prize for the main stage of future innovation. This was a decisive victory for the country.

Saudi Arabia also ranked 7th in the category of robot sports and 11th in the category of future innovators for the intermediate stage. This is an improvement of 7 places from its previous placement.

The Kingdom also placed 14th in the category of future innovators for the secondary stage. This was 20 places ahead of its ranking at the Olympics. It also ranked 39th in the category of future innovators for the first time, inches ahead of its previous classification.

Notably, the local qualifiers began with registration for teams on September 15, 2022, and the regional qualifiers took place on October 5.

The final qualifiers were held in Riyadh, King Salman Oasis, from 11 to 13 October, in which participants competed in five different categories.

After the local qualifiers, the winning teams will be trained by professional trainers at the Tuwaiq Academy of the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones. They will then travel to the global competition.
