Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has unveiled new guidelines for Umrah pilgrims, prioritizing physical fitness and safety. These updates aim to ensure a smoother and more comfortable pilgrimage experience for all participants.
Focus on Physical Fitness and Comfort
The ministry encourages pilgrims to focus on physical preparation, especially foot care. Pilgrims should avoid walking barefoot for long distances and wear comfortable footwear in non-prayer courtyards. Regular rest breaks are also essential to prevent exhaustion and maintain energy throughout the pilgrimage.
Nutrition and Hydration for Pilgrims
Proper nutrition and hydration play a critical role in the success of Umrah. Pilgrims are advised to avoid heavy meals and drink plenty of water to stay energized. Sufficient rest and hydration are key to maintaining stamina during the sacred rituals.
Umrah Visa Extended to 90 Days
In a bid to accommodate more visitors, Saudi Arabia has extended the Umrah visa duration from 30 days to 90 days. Pilgrims can now enter the Kingdom via any land, sea, or air route and exit through any airport, making the process more convenient.
Female pilgrims can now perform Umrah without a male guardian, a significant change aimed at empowering women in their spiritual journey.
Easier Access to Religious Sites
Pilgrims with personal, visit, or tourism visas can now visit Al Rawda Al Sharifa at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. However, they must secure an e-appointment. Additionally, Saudi citizens can invite friends from abroad to join them on this spiritual journey.
Saudi Arabia is preparing to host 15 million Umrah pilgrims next year, an increase from the 13.5 million Muslims who performed the pilgrimage last year.
Strict Health Guidelines for Hajj 2025
In August, the Kingdom announced strict health measures for Hajj 2025. Only physically fit individuals will be allowed to perform Hajj due to anticipated extreme weather conditions.
Pilgrims with severe medical conditions, such as serious heart, lung, or kidney diseases, and those with contagious diseases like tuberculosis, are barred from participating. Mandatory vaccinations for meningitis, COVID-19, seasonal flu, and polio will also be required.
The Kingdom’s focus on health, extended visa durations, and simplified processes highlight its commitment to enhancing the spiritual journey for Muslims worldwide.
