According to Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal faces months out after a serious cruciate ligament injury.
Carvajal left the field late in Saturday’s LaLiga match against Villarreal, as Madrid secured a 2-0 victory with goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior.
The 32-year-old and the club later confirmed that he will require a surgery.
“Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed. I’ll need surgery and will be off the field for a few months,” Carvajal shared on Instagram”.
After the match, Ancelotti said, “It looks like a serious knee injury, and the dressing room feels both sad and concerned.”
“These things happen often because of the demanding schedule, and unfortunately, we’ve lost a key player.”
Carvajal’s injury leaves Real Madrid with only Lucas Vazquez as their only right back specialist in the first team squad.
The defender had been included in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for forthcoming games against Denmark and Serbia, while De la Fuente will presumably now look for a replacement.
Ancelotti also explained that Vinicius Jr, who scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the win has also damaged his neck and his participation for the upcoming international break with Brazil is in doubt.
