Saudi Arabia Stresses Keenness on Somalia’s Sovereignty, Unity

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirmed its keenness on the unity of Somalia after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ethiopia and the “Somaliland region,” stressing its keenness on Somalia’s sovereignty over its entire territory.

In a joint statement issued at the end of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to the Kingdom, Sunday, he stressed the necessity of commitment to good neighborliness and sparing the region tension and conflicts.

The statement also welcomed the reforms achieved to restore stability in the Somali regions, and praised what the Somali forces achieved in combating terrorist organizations.

On the defense and security side, the two sides discussed ways to enhance military and security cooperation in a way that contributes to achieving common interests between the two countries. Moreover, they affirmed their endeavor to strengthen existing security cooperation on issues of common interest, including combating crimes in their various forms.

The two sides also affirmed their effort to take all measures that contribute to combating terrorism. They added that they exchange information to fight terrorism and extremism, neutralise their threats as well as combating hate speech. Both are committed to spread a culture of moderation and tolerance.

They also affirmed their determination to enhance coordination and cooperation between them to combat all forms of cross-border corruption crimes, prosecute their perpetrators. Moreover thet are determined to recover returns resulting from corruption crimes by benefiting from the global operations network of law enforcement authorities concerned with anti-corruption (GlobE Network).

The Somali President began an official visit to the Kingdom Saturday, at the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
