Saudi Arabia Secures 2nd Spot in G20 ICT Dev’t for Second Year in Row

Saudi Arabia secured the second position among G20 countries for the second year in a row in the 2024 ICT Development Index, according to the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This index monitors the digital development and progress of 170 countries in ICT services, using sub-indicators which are categorized into two main areas: inclusive communication and effective communication. Moreover, the analysis revealed that the Kingdom also secured the first place among G20 countries in the effective communication axis and second place in the inclusive communication axis, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

These efforts highlight Saudi Arabia’s continuous growth and expansion of the digital economy, as well as its success in attracting investment, the SPA report noted. Additionally, the Kingdom’s communication and technology market is the largest and fastest-growing in the Middle East (MENA) region, with a value of SR166 billion.

Furthermore, the mobile subscription penetration rate in the Kingdom has reached 198% of the population, with average monthly data consumption per citizen exceeding the global average by three times.
Furthermore, the analysis underscored that the investment had a positive impact on the digital economy, representing a milestone in the Kingdom’s transformation journey.
