The Saudi car market has emerged as a promising powerhouse, accounting for more than half of all car sales in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This pioneering position has led the Kingdom to be one of the top 20 car markets globally, according to Saudi Gazette.
The vehicle market in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region has been expanding over the years. Saudi Arabia is the largest new automotive sales and auto parts market in the Middle East.
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) recently announced that the Kingdom imported over 160,000 cars during 2022-2023.
ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi indicated that the top countries exporting cars to Saudi Arabia were Japan, India, the Republic of Korea, the United States, and Thailand.
In 2023 alone, 93,199 cars were imported, while 66,870 cars were imported in 2022.
Furthermore, in 2023, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) inspected 60,473 vehicles to ensure their compliance with the highest technical and safety standards.
To enhance the position of the Kingdom as a leading automotive market, SASO issued 18,150 energy efficiency certificates for tire products.
The organization granted a 465% increase in certificates of conformity for electric vehicles in 2023 compared to the previous year.
Moreover, SASO also issued 1,505 fuel efficiency labels for new light vehicles.
SASO’s spokesperson, Eng. Wael Al-Dhiyab, stressed the organization’s commitment to high standards for tire quality and safety in the Saudi market. Al-Dhiyab also underscored SASO’s efforts and contribution to enhancing product safety and energy efficiency and boosting the Saudi transition to clean energy.
