Saudi Arabia Raises Basic Minimum of Pensions

In a significant move aimed at enhancing the financial security of its citizens, Saudi Arabia has recently announced an increase in the basic minimum for calculating pensions for those entitled to social security.

This royal decree, issued by King Salman, demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting its people during challenging times. The increase in social security pensions, along with additional financial assistance, is set to provide relief and stability to Saudi households.

Background of the Pension Decree

The royal decree, approved by King Salman, entails an increase in the basic minimum for calculating pensions for individuals eligible for social security. Previously set at SR1,100 ($293), the new decree raises the minimum to SR1,320.

This adjustment aims to ensure that social security beneficiaries receive adequate support to meet their financial needs. Additionally, the decree includes guidance for beneficiaries to continue using and registering with the Citizen Account Program, further expanding their access to financial assistance.

In addition to the increase in the basic minimum for pensions, the royal decree also approves extra financial support for program users for a period of three months, extending until December. This extension of financial assistance demonstrates the government’s commitment to alleviating the economic burdens faced by its citizens. The Citizen Account Committee has been granted the authority to enhance the efficiency of support distribution, ensuring that it reaches those who are most deserving.

The Purpose of the Citizen Account Program

The Citizen Account Program was established to safeguard Saudi households from the impact of global price hikes. By providing financial support to eligible individuals and families, the program aims to mitigate the effects of rising costs of living. The recent extension of financial assistance is a testament to the program’s success in providing essential aid to those in need.

Previous Directives and Continuity of Support

This recent royal decree builds upon previous directives issued to support program beneficiaries. A royal directive issued in July 2022 allocated additional financial support to program beneficiaries until the end of the fiscal year. Subsequent directives issued in January, April, and August extended this support. The directives ensured that individuals and families continue to receive financial assistance. The decision to keep the registration for the program open until December reflects the government’s commitment to providing ongoing support.
