Saudi Arabia participates in the 62nd General Assembly of WIPO

The Kingdom, represented by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, will participate in the 62nd General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, from 4-8 October 2021.

The Kingdom’s participating delegation is headed by the Chief Executive Officer of Intellectual Property, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al-Suwailem, with the participation of some authority officials.

During his speech at the General Assembly, Dr. Al-Suwailem expressed the Kingdom’s desire and readiness to host the diplomatic conference to adopt a treaty on design code, noting that the Kingdom has joined several agreements recently, including the Budapest Treaty, the Nice Agreement, and the Strasbourg Agreement.

He indicated that the authority is working with the Ministry of Education to include intellectual property in educational curricula, as it hosted the WIPO Summer School program in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, with the attendance of 55 participants from 9 countries.

This is in the context of efforts to disseminate knowledge and build capacity in the field of intellectual property, explaining that the authority is working to enhance respect for intellectual property rights by launching the Intellectual Property Respect Officer initiative, which aims to raise the level of compliance with intellectual property laws and regulations in the public sector.

He referred to the authority’s initiative to launch the first version of the Arabic dictionary of intellectual property, looking forward to the organization adopting intellectual property dictionaries in six official languages.
