Saudi Arabia Launches Bold Wedding Venue Reforms

Saudi Arabia has announced comprehensive regulations for wedding and event venues, emphasizing food waste prevention and safety standards. The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing issued these updated rules to ensure venues adhere to environmental and architectural standards. These regulations aim to minimize food waste by requiring venues to collaborate with certified waste prevention organizations.

Food Waste Prevention Requirements

Now, all wedding venues must establish partnerships with certified food and beverage waste prevention groups. These organizations will help repackage surplus food or safely recycle it to reduce waste significantly.

Furthermore, standalone event halls are now permitted with specific amenities, such as gender-specific restrooms and designated reception areas. Optional features include lounges, children’s zones, and underground parking facilities.

To uphold aesthetic standards, regulations prohibit visible wiring and rooftop air conditioning units. Additionally, exterior designs must reflect regional urban identities, creating a harmonious cityscape. Loading zones should only face commercial streets, avoiding residential access.

Accessibility, Safety and Security

Accessibility is also a priority; venues must accommodate people with disabilities throughout all entry points and pathways. Solid boundary walls, at least 2.4 meters high, are mandatory near residential areas, while transparent fencing enhances front visibility. Moreover, parking areas must include pedestrian walkways for safety, and all venues are required to display QR codes with legal documentation at all times. Electronic signs inside should show emergency contacts, civil defense instructions, and operating hours.

Operating permits are compulsory, with violations including unlicensed events, noise violations, or hosting unauthorized performances. Venues must maintain infrastructure and cleanliness, ensuring proper spacing between tables and walls for comfort.

Secure electronic payment systems are mandatory, and refusal to accept digital payments is strictly prohibited. Surveillance cameras complying with national standards must be installed at all venues to enhance security. These new regulations aim to promote sustainable, safe, and accessible wedding venues across Saudi Arabia, fostering a better experience for all attendees.
