Saudi Arabia considers hosting the 2030 World Cup : Saudi Tourism Minister

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khatib announced recently that the Kingdom is considering hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Egypt and Greece.

Al-Khatib said in an interview with the “Bloomberg” agency in Riyadh that Saudi Arabia is considering making a bid with Greece and Egypt, hoping that his country will be able to organize a successful bid.

He continued, “The three countries will undoubtedly invest heavily in infrastructure and it will certainly be ready. By then, the Kingdom will have the most modern stadiums and fan areas.”

Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the World Cup will add to the list of sporting events hosted by the world’s largest oil exporter

With this request, the kingdom is looking to open up its economy to tourists and diversify away from dependence on energy sales.

Saudi Arabia has already secured the 2029 Asian Winter Games, the annual Formula 1 race, and several high-profile boxing matches.

Contrary to the statements mentioned above, Saudi Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, stated that his country did not submit a bid to organize the 2030 World Cup.

In his statements to the US network CNN, the Minister of Sports stated that the focus is currently on the two files of the Kingdom hosting the Asian Cup for men in 2027 and women in 2025.

Al-Faisal pointed out that stadiums and infrastructure are being prepared to host these significant events.

“We surprised the whole world by defeating Argentina and presented a global performance, stressing that it was incredible and that he is happy because of all the efforts that have been made, and all the sacrifices in the past two years have shown their results to the whole world,” Prince Abdul Aziz bin Turki added.

The Minister of Sports revealed the details of the case of the national team player, Yasser Al-Shahrani, saying that he suffered a facial fracture.
