Saudi Energy Minister announces discovery of two natural gas fields in Eastern Province

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Saudi Minister of Energy, announced that Saudi Aramco had discovered two unconventional natural gas fields in the Eastern Province.

The Minister of Energy said: The “Awtad” natural gas field was discovered southwest of the Ghawar field, 142 kilometers southwest of the city of Hofuf.

He added that gas flowed from the well (Awtad-108001) at a rate of 10 million standard cubic feet per day and 740 barrels of condensate.

Gas flowed from the well (Awtad-100921) at a rate of 16.9 million SCFD and 165 barrels of condensate.

The minister added that another field, “Al-Dahna” for natural gas, was discovered 230 km southwest of Dhahran.

Gas flowed from the well (Dahna-370100) at a rate of 17.5 million standard cubic feet per day, and 362 barrels of condensate.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman stressed the importance of these discoveries as part of the Kingdom’s strategy to reduce the use of liquid fuels. This is in addition to enhancing the Kingdom’s natural gas reserves.

Saudi Energy Minister, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman categorically denied recent reports that Saudi Arabia is currently discussing with other OPEC+ producers any increase in production by 500,000 barrels per day.

“It is well known, and it is no secret to anyone, that (OPEC +) does not discuss any decisions before its meetings,” Prince Abdulaziz said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. He also stated that OPEC’s current cut of two million barrels per day will be maintained until the end of 2023.
