Saudi Arabia Condemns Israel’s Attack on UNRWA School

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry has condemned and denounced the Israeli occupation’s bombing of a United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) school, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The school was sheltering thousands of displaced people in Al-Nuseirat camp in the central of Gaza Strip.

The attack killed at least 16 Palestinians and injured 50 others, according to CNN.

Hamas said five local journalists were among those killed in Israeli attacks on Saturday, according to BBC.

Israel said it had struck several Hamas “terrorists operating in structures located in the area of Al-Jaouni School”.

“This location served as a hideout and operational infrastructure from which attacks against IDF (Israel Defense Forces) troops operating in the Gaza Strip were directed and carried out,” the statement added.

The attack comes in a critical time where the international community is attempting to reach a deal between Hamas and Israel to implement an immediate ceasefire.

Consequently, Israel has announced it will send a team of negotiators next week to discuss a hostage release deal with Hamas.

Hamas agreed to commence talks on releasing Israeli hostages 16 days after the proposed first phase of an agreement aimed at ending the Gaza War, reported Reuters.

Saudi Arabia emphasized the necessity of activating international accountability mechanisms regarding the ongoing Israeli violations of international humanitarian law.

Furthermore, the Kingdom confirmed its complete rejection of targeting the civilians, stressing the dire need to reach a permanent ceasefire.
