Saudi Arabia chooses “Had Al Tar” film to represent it in Oscars

The Saudi Film Authority has chosen Had Al-Tar, a feature film, to represent the Kingdom at the 2018 Academy Awards.

Had Al-Tar, a fictional film has been nominated by the Saudi Committee for the Oscars to represent the Kingdom in the upcoming Oscar competition for Best International Film.

Director Haifaa Al-Mansour, critic and director Hana Al-Omair, as well as Director of the Organizing Committee of the Red Sea Festival, producer Mohamed Al-Turki, and filmmaker Ahmed Al-Mulla, Director of the Saudi Film Festival, make up the committee.

With this nomination, the film will compete against films from all over the world, and will go through various phases of sorting before being announced as the initial list, and then the final list, which will be picked by the American Academy of Sciences and Arts, which awards the Oscars.

The winners will be announced at the 94th Gala, which will be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022.

The film Had Al-Tar was shown for the first time at the Cairo Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize at the festival.
