Saudi Arabia Bans Polish Poultry Imports after Bird Flu Outbreak

Saudi Arabia’s Food and Drug Authority has imposed a ban on poultry meat and egg imports from Poland after an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza in two Polish provinces.

The authority stated that the ban is basically due to official reports emphasizing the spread of the virus in Mazowieckie and Warminsko-Mazowieckie, Gulf News reported. Accordingly, the Kingdom prevented the entry of any poultry products that may threaten public health.

“The Food and Drug Authority will continue to monitor the global health situation and will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of imported food and protect consumer health,” the authority said in a statement.

To ensure health and safety, the ban includes all poultry products, including processed meat and preparations. Meanwhile the regulations exempted heat-treated items processed under approved methods.

Furthermore, the Saudi Chambers Federation informed poultry importers of the ban, advising them to fully comply with the guidelines. The federation also urged collaboration with authorities to ensure proper implementation of safety protocols.
