Saudi Arabia has announced new regulations governing airline passengers traveling with prescription medicines containing opiates, according to Gulf News.
Under the new updates, all travelers arriving in or departing from the Kingdom must obtain a special permit before carrying opiate-based medications on board.
The Kingdom’s competent authorities will oversee the approval process, which requires travelers to submit valid medical documentation and apply in advance to obtain permits.
Notably, officials noted that the regulation seeks to boost passenger safety, prevent the misuse of controlled medications, and ensure smoother customs procedures across Saudi airports.
Authorities emphasized that the new regulation does not prohibit patients from taking their prescribed medications. Instead, it ensures that their transport complies with international standards.
The authorities also urged travelers to apply well in advance to avoid any potential travel delays.
