Saudi Arabia Announces Instructions of Using, Displaying Flag

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has announced new instructions concerning the handling, display, and treatment of the national flag, according to Gulf News.

According to the guidelines, raising flags that are faded or in poor condition is utterly prohibited. Therefore, entities must properly get rid of worn or obsolete flags.

The ministry also warned against the use of flags for commercial purposes or as part of a trademark. It is also prohibited to use the flag for tying or carrying objects or to place or print it on animals.

Crucially, people must always respect the flag and must not display it in a manner that could cause damage or disorder.

There are additional rules stipulating the prohibition of printing any slogans, phrases, as well as images on the flag.

The ministry clarified that people should display the flag in a way that makes it stand freely and move naturally on the mast. Accordingly, people should not fix or tie the flag in a way that limits its movement. In addition, they should never raise it upside down.

The authorities also underscored that the national flag should not touch the ground, water, or any other surface.

As for adding logos, they are prohibited except for the emblem of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques — two crossed swords topped by a palm tree placed near the lower corner by the flagpole.
