Saudi, Algerian Justice Ministers Sign Executive Program
In a significant move to bolster legal cooperation, Saudi Minister of Justice Walid Al-Samaani met with his Algerian counterpart Abderrachid Tabi in Algiers. This high-profile meeting involved signing an executive program aimed at enhancing relations in the judicial and legal sectors.
Enhancing Judicial Relations
Both ministers engaged in discussions focusing on the development of their respective judicial systems. Al-Samaani highlighted the considerable advancements in Saudi Arabia’s judicial sector, emphasizing the contributions of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in legislative, technical, and training developments.
The Executive Program: A Cornerstone for Collaboration
Additionally, the central outcome of this meeting was the signing of an executive program aimed at fostering mutual cooperation between KSA and Algeria. This program is designed to facilitate reciprocal visits, allowing for an in-depth exploration of each country’s judicial systems. It also aims to exchange information about the implementation of judicial rulings and adherence to relevant international treaties.
Broader Context of Judicial Cooperation
Moreover, this executive program is part of a broader effort to enhance judicial cooperation between the two countries. Previously, the President of the Algerian Constitutional Court, Omar Belhadj, met with Saudi Arabia’s Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al Mujib, discussing ways to enhance cooperation.
Accordingly, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on judicial cooperation is in the works. This MoU, supplementing existing treaties like the 1983 Riyadh Agreement on Judicial Cooperation and the 2013 Extradition of Criminals and Convicts Agreement, will further cement the legal and judicial collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Algeria.
