SAFAR Program Hosts Blufunk Evening in Diriyah’s JAX District

The Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art (SAMoCA) has hosted a vibrant artistic performance headlined by Nigerian musician Keziah Jones — the pioneer of the “Blufunk” genre, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Held in Diriyah’s JAX District, the performance is part of the SAFAR program series, that seeks to transform JAX District into a dynamic cross-cultural exchange.

The performance showcases, for the first time, a distinctive artistic style that goes beyond conventional musical genres.

Through a series of live showcases, the performance played a pivotal role in celebrating creative diversity, fostering cultural dialogue as well as unleashing new avenues for artistic exchange between countries.

On December 7, SAFAR will host a training workshop tackling the interactive reinterpretation of Arab artistic heritage through modern technologies.

To blend tradition with innovation, participants will explore how classical works from the 1950s can be transformed into contemporary electronic audio-visual creations.

Interestingly, the program will wrap up this season on December 8 with a visual performance featuring electronic music and cinematic visual scenes.
