Riyadh, Washington Strengthen Space Partnership

Saudi Arabia and America have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.

The strategic agreement reflects the support and empowerment given to the space sector by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council. It also highlights the tireless efforts made by both sides to develop the strategic relationship between the two countries.

Cooperation, Exploration

The agreement between the two countries aims to enhance cooperation in space and scientific exploration, increase joint investment in commercial activities, and establish a legal framework for collaboration. It specifies joint work in space and Earth sciences, aeronautics, space missions, education, and other areas of mutual interest.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Space Agency, Engineer Abdullah Al-Sawaha, confirmed that the agreement is a turning point in the Kingdom’s journey to building a strong space sector. He also noted that it reflects the Kingdom’s commitment in space and its efforts to enhance its position as a key partner in global exploration.

The CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, Dr. Mohammed Al-Tamimi, explained that this strategic partnership aims to identify areas of common interest and cooperation between the two sides. Additionally, this will enhance national capabilities in aeronautics, space exploration, and space applications, enabling the Kingdom to seize opportunities for scientific and technical progress.

On his part, NASA Director Bill Nelson expressed his aspiration to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom in the field of space, saying: “My visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia earlier this year showed me the enormous potential for cooperation between us and we are now in the golden age of exploration, which is “An era of partnership. Moreover, this new agreement demonstrates how we will work and explore together for the benefit of humanity, and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together.”

Under the agreement, the agreed upon programs will be implemented for various uses such as flights, balloon campaigns, participation in workshops and joint meetings, in addition to many other activities that enhance cooperation in the field of space.

The agreement is expected to solidify future cooperation between the two countries in this vital sector. It also marks an important step towards mutual benefits and enhances the Kingdom’s role as a key player in the regional and global space field.
