Saudi Arabia Broadens Space Horizons at COPUOS in Vienna

Saudi Arabia has participated in the 67th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held in Vienna from June 19 to 28, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) represented the Kingdom in a significant meeting themed “Saudi Towards Space: Igniting the Space Sector”.

The meeting brought together more than 80 leaders and specialists, discussing valuable opportunities to elevate the global space industry to new untapped horizons.

The Saudi participation stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering the international cooperation and the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space.

During the event, the Saudi delegation underscored Saudi Arabia’s latest progress in the space sector and its efforts to enhance space sustainability and tourism.

Furthermore, they reviewed the successful Saudi initiatives such as the Space Debris Conference and participations in worldwide space forums.

The meeting also tackled the Kingdom’s efforts of space exploration highlighting its successful mission toward space, which conducted 14 pioneering scientific experiments.

The Saudi participants showcased the latest developments in the regulatory and governance framework for the space sector in the Kingdom.

Moreover, they exchanged views concerning the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space and deepened the strategic partnerships with worldwide space organizations.

It is noteworthy that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has recently unveiled the establishment of the New Space Group (NSG) to be a pioneering company in the Kingdom’s space sector.

NSG is mainly designed to provide innovative solutions to the local and international satellite services and target promising investment opportunities to further boost Saudi Arabia’s position in this growing sector.
