Riyadh to Host Closing Ceremony of First King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award

The King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award is a prestigious initiative aims at celebrating exceptional architecture that reflects the values of the King Salman Charter in Saudi Arabia. Created to honor King Salman’s vision, the Award encourages architects and designers to incorporate the Charter’s principles into their projects, thereby promoting excellence in design.

Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the city of Riyadh will host the closing ceremony of the first edition of the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award on Sunday evening.

Moreover, this award is a key component of the commission’s strategy to activate the Charter initiative, which focuses on preserving architectural heritage and authenticity through cultural and environmental contexts across the Kingdom. It also highlights future urban developments and significantly encourages projects that embrace the Charter’s principles.

However, the award has two main goals: first to highlight the outstanding local project that showcase “authenticity, continuity, human-centricity, livability, innovation, and sustainability” and second, to inspire companies, practitioners, and students to apply the Charter’s values in their work.

Additionally, it helps promote top urban projects that align with the Charter’s goals.

Established in 2021, King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism guides urban development in Saudi Arabia by blending the country’s rich history and culture with modern practices. The Award’s goal is to showcase and encourage exceptional work that reflects these core values.

Finally, the Architecture and Design Commission has announced the King Salman Charter Award shortlist. Projects are categorized into “Built Projects”, Unbuilt Projects”  and “Student Projects”
