Riyadh Metro’s Red Line to Connect King Saud University to Diriyah

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced that it had begun construction of two new Riyadh Metro stations, as part of the Red Line (Line 2) extension project.

The two new stations are located within the King Saud University (KSU). The first will serve the University Medical City and health colleges, while the second station will serve the University concourse.

The new stations are part of an 8.4-kilometers extension to Riyadh Metro’s Red Line, including 7.1 kilometers of deep underground tunnels and 1.3 kilometers of elevated tracks.

Comprising a total of five stations, the Red Line’s expansion will run from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate Development Project.

In addition to the two KSU stations, the extension will involve three additional stations in Diriyah, including one planned as a future interchange with Line 7.

The two new stations within King Saud University mark a major milestone in the Red Line expansion project, serving as a vital link between major educational and healthcare institutions, in addition to prominent cultural, entertainment, and tourism landmarks of Diriyah.

Furthermore, the expansion project aligns with Riyadh’s broader strategy to develop an integrated and eco-friendly public transport network that supports the city’s future growth. The completion of the project is expected in approximately six years.
