OIC Welcomes Slovenia’s Decision to Recognize Palestine

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the decision of the Government and Parliament of Slovenia to recognize the State of Palestine, reported Sabq.

It explained that this important and historic step pushes towards achieving justice and freedom of the Palestinian people, and affirms their legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination.

The organization appreciates such positions, which are consistent with the rules of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, and strengthen international efforts aimed at ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem.

The organization renewed its call to all countries of the world that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine, to announce their recognition and to support the State of Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations.

Slovenia’s government approved a decision five days ago to recognize an independent Palestinian state, Prime Minister Robert Golob announced at a news conference.

This diplomatic move aligns Slovenia with Spain, Ireland, and Norway, who recently recognized the State of Palestine.

It is part of international efforts and moves made to increase pressure on Israel to halt its military operations in Rafah and end the ongoing war in Gaza.

“Today the government has decided to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state,” Golob said at a news conference in Ljubljana.

Furthermore, the Slovenian government raised a Palestinian flag alongside the flags of Slovenia and the EU in front of its building in downtown Ljubljana. “This is the message of peace,” Golob stated.
