Saudi Arabia aims to become a global leader in clean energy, with its ambitious NEOM green hydrogen project set to supply 10% of the world’s demand. This groundbreaking initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s broader goals of sustainable development and carbon neutrality.
Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef reaffirmed the Kingdom’s dedication to clean energy at the Saudi Green Initiative Forum. The forum coincided with the 16th COP session to the UNCCD, held in Riyadh.
Alkhorayef highlighted the NEOM project as a key driver of the Kingdom’s green hydrogen ambitions. This project aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative’s goal to promote clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. He stressed that Saudi Arabia is committed to balancing industrial growth with environmental sustainability.
Global Collaboration for Sustainability
The minister emphasized the need for global collaboration to achieve carbon neutrality in the industrial sector. He also discussed the Liquid Fuel Displacement Program, which reduces carbon emissions in industrial facilities.
Alkhorayef praised Jubail Industrial City for balancing industrial growth with environmental sustainability over the past five decades. Once a desert, Jubail is now a green oasis and a global industrial hub.
Advancing Sustainable Mining Practices
Saudi Arabia’s mineral wealth, valued at $2.5 trillion, positions it as a global leader in mining. Alkhorayef cited Wa’ad Al-Shamal’s phosphate mine as a model for environmental safety and community development. The Kingdom is now a major phosphate exporter, supporting global food security.
The minister highlighted advancements in transforming raw materials into high-value products, such as aluminum from bauxite, for aviation and automotive industries. He also stressed the importance of the Future Minerals Forum as a platform for global sustainability and innovation in mining.
