NEOM and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) agreed to extend their partnership for another four years until 2029, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The partnership between NEOM and AFC sponsors the AFC Women’s Champions League, the first women’s football tournament in Asia. It also supports tournaments of national teams and member clubs in the Confederation.
Through this partnership, NEOM and the Asian Football Confederation seek to promote diversity in sports and support women football in Asia.
In this regard, NEOM CEO, Nadhmi Al-Nasr, said: “The partnership with AFC provides an important opportunity to develop sports sector across Asia and create more pathways that meet the needs of the talented and football fans around the world.”
Al-Nasr added that NEOM is interested in this partnership due to the connection between sports and human health, and the pivotal role it plays in entertainment, raising the quality of life and bringing people together. This aligns with NEOM’s strategic vision and goals and contributes to achieving Vision 2030 objectives.
Meanwhile, the AFC General Secretary, Datuk Seri Windsor John, said that extending the partnership enhances the appeal of the AFC’s competitions to engage with the millions of Asian football fans. “We look forward to creating more historic moments with NEOM to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes,” he added.
The partnership between NEOM and AFC reflects both organizations’ commitment to enhance inclusivity in sport and the positive steps taken to support women’s football in Asia.
