The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission announced that Neo Space Group won the permit to provide Earth observation satellite services. This aims to support the private sector in developing Earth observation services, boosting the Kingdom’s GDP through value-added space products.
The authority explained that the permit allows for creating and operating an electronic platform for collecting and processing Earth observation data from satellites, such as images of landmarks, pollution, and weather. The platform will act as both an enabler and a digital marketplace. It will connect Earth observation data providers with those who develop, process, and convert data into space programs and products with added value. Both public and private sector beneficiaries will be able to access this processed data. Additionally, this will support applications in agriculture, environment, transportation and more.
It is noted that the authority issued the document titled “Application for a Permit to Provide Satellite Earth Observation Services” and opened the opportunity for interested parties to compete in April. A deadline of July 7, 2024, was set for receiving applications. Subsequently, applications from candidates were received, and Neo Space Group was selected as the winner of the permit according to the evaluation mechanism outlined in the aforementioned document.
This is part of its efforts to enable space activities, stimulate investments in the space sector. It also enhances the Kingdom’s global standing.
