Missile strike in Marib: death toll rises to 21

Yesterday, the Iranian-backed terrorist militia Houthis targeted a fuel station in the Al-Rawda neighbourhood in Ma’rib with a ballistic missile and a booby-trapped plane. The death toll has risen to 21today, according to the official Yemeni News Agency Saba.

Saba news agency quoted a medical source as saying that two children were among the victims: a girl named Lian Taher Muhammad Ayedh (5 years) and a boy, Hassan Al-Hubaishi (10 years).

Background

Violent clashes are taking place near the contested city of Ma’rib in Yemen’s northeast, as Houthi troops are attempting to wrest control of the city from Yemeni government forces.

“We are appalled by the Houthis’ use of a ballistic missile to destroy the fuel station in Marib, which resulted in the killing and wounding of civilians, and attacking a crew of a car who was coming to rescue the wounded,” wrote on Twitter Acting US Ambassador to Yemen, Kathy Westley, adding that such inhumane violence must come to an end.

Meanwhile, the British ambassador to Yemen, Michael Aaron, described in his official Twitter account what happened as horrific, calling out the Houthis to stop the attack on Marib and enter the United Nations talks to solve the crisis in Yemen.
