Medical Team Successfully Separates Conjoined Twins Hasna, Husna

The Saudi medical and surgical team for the separation of conjoined twins successfully separated the Nigerian conjoined twins Hasna and Husna on Thursday morning. The operation took place at King Abdullah Specialized Children Hospital at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, reported News 24.

Conjoined Twins Hassan, Hussein

Last year, the Saudi medical team successfully separated the two Tanzanian conjoined twins, Hassan and Hussein Omari Saidi, through a complex operation that lasted for 16 hours.

The operation was done under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince.

Operation Details

On Thursday, an operation to separate the two Tanzanian conjoined twins started at King Abdullah Specialist Children Hospital.

The medical and surgical team for the separation of Siamese twins, led by the General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center Dr. Abdullah Al- Rabeeah, started the operation yesterday, Thursday, the process of separating the Tanzanian Siamese twins, Hassan and Hussein.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah explained that the surgery was expected to last 16 hours. It had 9 stages. 35 consultants and specialists from the departments of anesthesia, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology, plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery participated in the operation.

A medical evacuation plane took the two-year-old twins from Dar El Salaam, Tanzania, to Saudi Arabia on August 23.
