Minister of Environment Highlights Saudi Environmental Efforts
His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen affirmed that the numerous Saudi environmental efforts and initiatives. The Minister added that the adopted moves by the Kingdom have contributed to enhancing the ability to address contemporary environmental challenges at both regional and international levels, reported Saudi Press Agency.
He made these remarks during his speech at the high-level meeting of the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly held today in Nairobi, Kenya. The Kingdom showcased its environmental efforts and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and combating land degradation, such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, and the global initiative to reduce land degradation.
Saudi Environmental Efforts
His Excellency explained that, in line with Vision 2030, the Kingdom adopts a holistic view of ecosystems through efforts to protect the natural environment and preserve biodiversity. It has launched a package of legislation, strategies, and national plans targeting the protection, development, and sustainability of the environment.
Volume of Environmental Protection
The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture revealed that the Saudi investment volume to implement environmental projects exceeds 6 billion riyals until 2030, reported Al Arabiya. Deputy Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Mansour Al-Mushaiti pointed out that the cost of environmental degradation has exceeded 86 billion riyals, according to a 2014 study by the World Bank.
Al-Mushaiti also noted that the Kingdom has made remarkable progress in environmental protection and conservation of natural resources, and has achieved progress in global indicators. The Minister called for cooperation to enhance environmental commitment through self-regulation, disclosure, and integration of performance from all stakeholders.
