The ports supervised by the General Authority for Ports “Mawani” achieved a 7.82% increase in cargo handling volume during September 2024, reaching 28,097,022 tons, compared to 26,058,554 tons in the same month of 2023.
The number of exported containers recorded an increase of 9%, reaching 255,606 containers, compared to 234,663 containers during the same period in 2023. Additionally, the number of imported containers increased by 18%, reaching 258,007 containers, compared to 217,933 containers last year.
Cargo Volume, Livestock Statistics
The total volume of general cargo reached 975,406 tons, solid bulk cargo amounted to 4,473,019 tons, and liquid bulk cargo reached 15,277,608 tons. Meanwhile, the ports received 343,952 heads of livestock, a decrease of 35.58% compared to 533,948 heads of livestock in the same period in 2023.
The total number of containers handled reached 673,124 containers, a decrease of 8.08% compared to 732,319 containers last year. Additionally, transshipment containers declined by 42.98%, reaching 159,511 containers, compared to 279,723 containers in 2023.
The maritime traffic decreased by 5.18%, reaching 988 ships compared to 1,042 ships in 2023. Moreover, the number of passengers dropped by 39.46%, reaching 44,166 passengers compared to 72,956 passengers last year. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles saw an increase of 10.51%, reaching 98,087 vehicles compared to 88,755 vehicles last year.
Volume of Handled Tonnage in August
It is noted that “Mawani” achieved a 26.57% increase in the volume of handled tonnage in August 2024, reaching 30,527,279 tons, compared to 24,118,698 tons in the same month of 2023. Furthermore, the number of exported containers rose by 18.76%, reaching 258,955 containers, compared to 218,051 containers during the same period in 2023. The number of imported containers also increased by 15.24%, reaching 261,288 containers, compared to 226,738 containers last year. This aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy which aims to solidify the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub and a connection point between three continents.
