Kuwait Airways will resume operations to various destinations from Kuwait International Airport on Sunday, following the reopening of the country’s airspace on Thursday, according to Reuters.
The company announced that the airline will operate from Terminal 4 to 17 destinations.
Meanwhile, Jazeera Airways will also resume services to nine destinations from Terminal 5.
The Civil Aviation Authority unveiled that the reopening forms part of a phased plan aiming at gradually restoring air traffic ahead of a full resumption of flights.
War in Iran
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Airspace Closure
As a result, Kuwait closed its airspace amid the outbreak of the Iran war, with its international airport and surrounding areas subsequently coming under attack.
This air closure has led Jazeera Airways to temporarily relocate parts of its operations last month to neighboring Saudi Arabia, running flights from Al Qaisumah and Dammam airports.
