An unusual Arab summit
Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Arab-African summit will be postponed , in view of the current events in Gaza.
She pointed out that the decision to postpone the date of the fifth Arab-African summit was in view of the current developments in Gaza, which begged for an extraordinary Arab summit and an Islamic summit to discuss the current crisis and the serious humanitarian repercussions it is witnessing.
Badly-needed Arab Summits
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) will host two summits for the Arab Muslim countries to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” announced the Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al Falih, according to Reuters.
“This week and during the coming few days, KSA will hold an urgent Arab summit in Riyadh, in addition to one with the African countries,” said Al Falih during Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore.
The minister did not set a specific date for the summits.
Highlighting the objectives of these summits, the ministers said that these summits will be held, headed by KSA, to advance a peaceful solution to the crisis in Gaza.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement late Tuesday , saying that the summit with the African countries, which was scheduled next week, will be postponed to focus on the other two summits.
Iran on the List of Attendees
Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi will land in KSA Sunday to attend the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Raisi’s visit will mark the first visit from an Iranian president to KSA since several years of long feud that ended in March.
