In a separate cable, the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, extended his deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to Sir Bob Dadae, the families of the victims, and the friendly people of Papua New Guinea.

Moreover, the Crown Prince hoped for a safe return of the missing and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Papua New Guinea has been struck by a massive landslide on Friday, which buried more than 2,000 people alive and caused massive destruction at Yambali village in the Enga province, according to the country’s National Disaster Centre.

The government said that dangerous and treacherous terrain and the difficulty of delivering aid to the site diminish the hopes of finding survivors, and has formally asked for international help.

The village’s remote location, lack of telecommunications, and tribal warfare in the region have slowed the arrival of heavy equipment and aid. Rescue teams have retrieved six bodies so far.
