Khaled Makshoush Uses Art to Reimagine Saudi Capital
Saudi artist Khaled Makshoush has become adept at utilizing pixel art to depict Saudi Arabian landscapes in a modern way, reported Arab News.
Using pixel art, Makshoush, who is based in Riyadh, uses his tablet and stylus to capture diverse scenes. These scenes range from bustling construction sites adorned with cranes to hues of the desert. Pixel art is a technique popular in indie and retro video games for its vivid and expressive visual style.
Developments Inspire Khaled Makshoush’s Art
In an interview with Arab News, Makshoush shared his motivation, drawn from the Kingdom’s dynamic changes and its rich complexity. Color plays a crucial role in Makshoush’s creations; he employs a vivid color scheme that produces striking and captivating images.
Makshoush’s pieces reflect the swift evolution of Riyadh, illustrating the vibrant urban life in the capital of the Kingdom. “I try to let my life and my culture come out organically through chasing my personal sense of the world,” he said.
His ventures into Riyadh’s cityscape ignite his imagination, transforming the everyday scenes and encounters into the focus of his artistic expressions. “Walking and driving in Riyadh always gives me inspiration and an idea for my artwork. It’s interesting to see how the city is changing very fast and also still has its own unique feel that I always like to express,” he added.
